Did you know that Ride Connection provides free transportation resources to seniors and people with disabilities?
Viewing transportation as a basic human right, Ride Connection firmly believes that getting to and from medical appointments or the grocery store are part of an independent and more fulfilling life.
Ride Connection's services include:
Providing information about transportation services in our area
Assistance planning a trip using public transit
Travel training to learn how to use public transit via the Ride Wise program
Accessing neighborhood shuttles to local destinations
Enhanced safety and comfort via Door to Door transportation
As part of their Door to Door program, Ride Connection provides free door to door transportation for seniors over 60, as well as people with disabilities, and last year, gave 170,000 rides to over 10,000 individuals. This was accomplished via 600 volunteer drivers utilizing 100 vehicles, including buses and minivans. All drivers receive training, and must pass a background check. Ride Connection's hours of service are Monday-Friday, 8 - 5, and operate on the honor system. This means that riders are not required to show proof of age or disability, and they may use the service for any destination. While transportation is provided free of charge, donations are always welcome. (Ride Connection's funding comes from donations, TriMet subsidies and fundraising.)
Ride Connection's Ride Wise program helps individuals learn to use mass transit, including personalized trip planning and travel training, if desired. Last year this program served 900 people!
